Sties and Chalazia

oftalmologo en cancun - tratamiento de orzuelos y perrillas

Styes are small bumps on the eyelid caused by blockage of one or more sebaceous glands. They can occur at any age and usually start with inflammation.

Some of them resolve spontaneously, however others are accompanied by eyelid infections, further swelling or persist as painless bumps (chalazia).

The treatment will depend on the clinical characteristics and the time of evolution, so we suggest you visit your ophthalmologist to recommend the most appropriate solution.

In cases where it can no longer be treated with medication, a surgery called "chalazion curettage" is performed, which consists of removing the contents of the lump through a small incision in the eyelid.
